President Jair Bolsonaro received the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, for whom Brazil plays an important role in providing agricultural input in times of rising global food insecurity and should strive to increase its production even more.

President Bolsonaro asked the D-G to take the lead in a multilateral negotiation to allow the free flow of fertilizers to food-producing countries. Okonjo-Iweala agreed with the need for WTO members to arrange an exception for the free circulation of fertilizers.

In a meeting with the Parliamentary Agricultural Front, Dr Okonjo-Iweala stressed her fears that the world may face an “unprecedented hunger crisis”and added:“I know that the world cannot survive without Brazilian agriculture.(...)The entire world must consider future challenges."
