Brazil takes actions to ensure water security

Several Brazilian governmental agencies have formed the Water Task Force (“Força-Tarefa das Águas”) to bring water to the Northern state of Minas Gerais and to the Northeastern region of Brazil, benefiting thousands of people from areas historically wracked by drought.
Since 2019, over 47,106 wells, cisterns, simplified supply systems and desalination units have been built, benefiting more than 850,000 people from the most isolated rural communities. These people no longer need to walk or drive for miles, or call a tanker truck, to have water.
The Task Force will permanently provide water to 600,000 more people in the most vulnerable areas of the country, totaling about 1.5 million Brazilians with regular new supply by the end of 2022.
